ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 provides an example of a particular event in a 10-year transdisciplinary research (TR) project. The project had resulted in the development, implementation, and ongoing validation of a post-admission, engineering-specific diagnostic assessment, administered in the initial weeks of an undergraduate engineering program. This project was one of many we might have chosen to highlight in this book, as we have engaged as transdisciplinary partners in many such projects over the past 25 years. Given the purpose of the book, however, we chose this project to illustrate both the extraordinary potential of an alternative socio-theoretical perspective in validation research, and the benefits of the alternative experience, knowledge, and expertise of collaborating research partners in assessment validation practices.
