ABSTRACT
The Conclusion brings back the problematic addressed at the outset of this volume-the exclusionary universalizing of provincial knowledges and theoretical standpoints that are blind not only to how language may be used in certain global-local contacts but are also blind to their own localness. Not to be forgotten is that such a problematic is not limited to Latin America but may also be felt in other regions of the global South. This book emphasizes a locus of enunciation as squarely positioned specifically in Brazil and in Latin America and partakes in the notion of a global South not as a geographic but as a possibly metaphoric and definitely epistemic location. The critique therefore moves beyond resistance to assert and exemplify the possibility of productive alternatives embodied in the identification of the dynamics of glocal languages and the wealth of local alternatives to a top-down one-size-fits-all view of globalization. It is therefore not a question of either resistance or outright opposition or of substituting one perspective for another, but one of thinking WITH, FROM and AS the south.
