ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the author discusses contemporary imperialism on the basis of V. I. Lenin's analysis that is, taking his analysis as their point of departure. Lenin dated the imperialist phase of capitalism, which he associated with monopoly capitalism, from the beginning of the twentieth century, when the process of centralisation of capital led to the emergence of monopoly in industry and among banks. The interests of international finance capital require a muting of inter-imperialist rivalry. Globalisation is dominated by international finance capital and is carried out under the aegis of imperialism, but the way to fight it, many would argue, is through coordinated international actions by the workers and peasants. Lenin's emphasis on wars as accompanying imperialism remains as valid as it was in his time. In the phase of imperialism, finance capital has become international, while the state remains a nation state.
