All the coins are Scottish and most are worn and corroded. Many counterfeits of the smaller, basemetal, 17th-century denominations were common and widely current alongside the official issues, and are identified by their irregular style and light weight. The condition of the present coins makes it difficult to distinguish these characteristics, but the coins of Nu2 are probably counterfeits. It should be noted that the Scottish issues of Charles I were continued after his death.
