ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the link between Edoardo Sanguineti and some of the most influential experimental artists of the 1950s and 1960s, and discusses how and to what extent the dialectical relation between poetry and painting was reciprocally inspirational. In 1963 Antonio Bueno founded Gruppo 70, a multimedia/inter-disciplinary group of artists whose intention was to promote the inter-semiotic collaboration between the arts, and foster any experimental attempt to go beyond strict disciplinary boundaries. His lifelong dialogue and collaboration with experimental artists and painters proved to be crucial to his development as a poet, and individual. From a stylistic standpoint the poem is reminiscent of Sanguineti's early poetry. Bueno's technological experiments intrigued Sanguineti not only for their artistic originality, but also for their ideological implications. It could be argued that, in many respects, Bueno's personality and art mirrored Sanguineti's, and that Sanguineti, despite all possible differences and disagreements, instinctively saw in his friend a kindred spirit.
