ABSTRACT

In this chapter we investigate gender inequality in mobility in Portugal. We examine the role that transport services play in the everyday experiences of men and women with respect to trip chaining, using statistical data. The research methodology is grounded in literature review and in statistics on mobility concerning commuting displacement. Findings demonstrate that women’s daily lives are more complex than men’s. Yet these differences, shaped by the use of the car, are diminishing. The effort to develop a gender perspective for inclusion in the transport policy in Portugal is a challenging priority for present and future policymaking.
