ABSTRACT

This chapter is the introduction to the book Women’s Leadership Journeys. Tan and DeFrank-Cole discuss the current state of women in leadership in today’s society. They address several obstacles contributing to underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, including stereotypes, gender bias, and the concept of the glass ceiling. The chapters synthesize experiences of women from a range of industries and professions, with the intention of encouraging women to take charge of their own leadership journey. Tan and DeFrank-Cole provide a brief outline of their collection, describing how each chapter contributes to one of the three distinguished parts: Women’s Leadership Journeys: Stories From Women Leaders, Navigating the Leadership Journey, and Looking at Women’s Journeys Ahead: Cutting-Edge Perspectives.
