ABSTRACT

Two significant issues must be addressed with respect to climate change. First, efforts to address it at the local level must be continued and expanded. While the causes are global, the impacts are felt locally. In this book, exceptional programs and ideas have been described. In the years to come, the consequences of a changing climate will be ever more pronounced and local adaptation needs will increase. Adaptation efforts thus must be enhanced.

Second, efforts to address climate change both globally and at the local level have become more difficult as it has become a partisan political issue. Overcoming the political stalemate and getting everyone on board regarding the severity of climate concerns is critical. An essential first step is to rebuild the confidence of the public in science.
