ABSTRACT

The departure of the second detachment of the men engaged by Messrs. Peto and Betts to construct the railway from Balaclava to the trenches before the heights round Sebastopol, which we briefly noticed last week, was witnessed by a large party of noblemen and gentlemen. The “navvies,” who are nearly all young men in the prime of vigorous manhood, presented all those evidences of stalwart strength and endurance for which their class is proverbial.
