ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses transfer experience practices led by intentional student development with a necessary perspective on the transitional journey of community college students transferring to a four-year institution. The theoretical frameworks within student development include a primary focus on n. K. Schlossberg’s transition theory and subsidiary application of A. W. Chickering and L. Reisser’s vectors of identity. Schlossberg’s transition theory conceptualizes how higher education professionals can understand and assist students who face transitions. Passport’s services and functions fall into three main categories: pre-transfer advising; transitional programming, advisor training, and resources; and articulation and curricula agreements. Passport advisors also maintain an office space within the Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Service Area academic advising center physically closest to the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus where advising sessions are held four days a week. Passport provides many initiatives to ensure the availability of transfer and articulation information.
