ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the birth and development of a perceptual-analytical method of representation and analysis. It focuses on elective theoretical course of environmental design followed by an ethnographical unit strictly based on the moving image. The chapter introduces students with no training in sketching and drawing techniques to an alternative, accessible method of representation and analysis of landscape. The proposed approach, actually a method, is very practical, even if based on soft analyses, and can be considered as a new kind of learning-by-filming, which directly facilitates relating to the digital-born generation and permits students to merge their knowledge with visions and realism. To provide students with some background about the topic, we gave them a multidisciplinary literature list and asked them to choose at least six essays for individual studying — under tutored supervision — according to a preferred sub-subject theme.
