ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects on a 20-year research collaboration between the author and Milton Lodge, focusing particularly on the unique process of collaboration and its products. The research produced by this partnership, culminating in the 2013 book, The Rationalizing Voter, contributed to the literatures on affect and emotion, automaticity and control, and motivated reasoning within the fields of political psychology, political behavior, and voting behavior. The chapter concludes with a discussion of critics and implications of the theoretical and empirical approaches taken by Lodge and Taber.
