ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the changes implied here with respect to popular music production and marketing, as well as to the production context of computer game music. It focuses on conceptualizations of synergy and practices associated with it, with a separate stress on copyright issues. The interrelations between music and media have not passed unnoticed within scholarly activities, particularly the study of film music, which now has a long history. Despite this kind of more than obvious connection between music and computer games, scholarly accounts on the topic are virtually non-existent, whether focusing on aesthetics, production or any other aspect. An indication of the ways in which the role of music in computer games has changed is provided by the FIFA football game series, produced by the leading computer game company Electronic Arts. Despite the worldwide dissemination of 'Late Goodbye' through Max Payne 2, Poets of the fall do not appear in the statistics.
