ABSTRACT

Some researchers estimate that 15.000 children suffer from violence in Italy every year. Children's conditions have slowly achieved a central position in the awareness of the Italian society, owing to the technical contribution of psychic development studies and the increasing welfare which allows adults to devote more attention to children and childhood. The mass media are, without any doubt, very important in informing public opinion about events of macro and micro violence against Italian children. The Italian government appointed the National Board on Children Problems which is charged to supply the government with proposals and suggestions about childhood politics. In Italy, primary school and secondary school syllabuses have been giving more prominence to education on how to live in the community. Children's violence against other children is not perceived by the public. However, increasing incidents reported by newspapers show that bullying among youngsters is an unexplored reality.
