ABSTRACT

Limpsfield Grange is a school in Surrey for girls aged 11–16 years with communication and interaction needs. The majority of girls who attend Limpsfield Grange have been identified as autistic, and all of the students who attend the school have high and persistent levels of anxiety that affect their day-to-day life. The girls of Limpsfield Grange are encouraged to be proud of and speak out about autism. Limpsfield Grange was the subject of the ITV documentary Girls with Autism screened in 2015, and the girls have written two novels, M is for Autism and M in the Middle, both published by Jessica Kingsley. They are currently working, together with writer Vicky Martin, on their third publication. People who do not have autism need to treat autistic girls with respect. The world needs to know that people with autism act differently, but despite this we can do anything we put our hearts to.
