ABSTRACT

Peripheral nervous system (PNS) measures provide valuable data that can help scientists gain a unique insight into the processes that underlie individuals’ experiences with communication episodes. Basic knowledge of PNS measures helps scientists not only begin to consider using these measures but also critically evaluate relevant research. This chapter is designed to provide that level of knowledge. A brief overview of the peripheral nervous system is provided, along with a general description of common measures and a review of recent studies using the measures. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the future of PNS measures in communication science.
