ABSTRACT

The 1960s to the 1980s may be described as the population bomb years. This was a period when the United States led the world in the war on numbers. The World Bank became involved in moulding population policies in the debtor countries of the South, along with the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations. This section provides policy documents from the various Five Year Plans, the Mudaliar Committee report which gave a boost to family planning in the country, the MTP Act, etc., the Population Policy of 1976 etc.
