ABSTRACT

The liberal ideology carries universal values that promote individuals’ rights and freedom. These principles have percolated into most modern constitutions and today regulate the organisation of human societies throughout the world. This book has shed some light on political organisations that avail to belong to this liberal tradition: the liberal parties. The objectives of this volume were twofold. First, it aimed at investigating how liberal parties in Europe have evolved over time, in a comparative perspective. Second, it aimed at discussing the applicability of the concept of party family to liberal parties.
