ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the client with Tourette's Syndrome. Jenny is an 11-year-old Caucasian female who was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome by her paediatric neurologist three years ago. Based on Jenny's history and results of the intake interviews, she qualified for a diagnosis of Tourette's Syndrome. She had displayed numerous motor and vocal tics for several years, and these were leading to clinically significant impairment in multiple areas of her life. Motor and vocal tics have been the study of research for over 40 years, with Habit Reversal Training (HRT) being the main researched behavioural intervention. To determine if the Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT) treatment was having direct effects on Jenny's tics and indirect effects on her depressive symptoms, Jenny and her parents were asked each week about how they felt therapy was progressing and if they had noticed any changes in her tics.
