ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on two questions about the infinite descent of ground: what it is and whether it is possible. Dixon notes that infinite descent is possible in both infinitist and foundationalist metaphysics, given a plausible characterization of metaphysical foundationalism. He subsequently turns the discussion toward the question of whether non-foundationalist infinite descent is possible. He then surveys a number of arguments, some in favor of the possibility of non-foundationalist infinite descent and some against it.
