ABSTRACT
A survey of some of the main accounts of grounding, dependence, foundation, and essence as well as some important applications thereof to philosophical questions which were put forward at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century by the early phenomenologists and other heirs of Brentano—Meinong, Husserl, Reinach, and Scheler.
