ABSTRACT

A consideration of wildlife management in many countries suggests that management is seldom taken seriously until animal stocks are depleted to the point of near extinction. Until this state is reached laissez-faire policies of‘non interference’ are generally adopted in the belief that the animals can look after themselves. Parts of West Africa fall into the category of having sadly depleted stocks of wildlife and we may suppose, therefore, that management in those areas will wish to embrace the most sophisticated approaches.
