ABSTRACT

The roots of the formation of Hungarian engineering reach back to the early period of capitalism in the country in the eighteenth century. Engineers as a significant group within the social structure appeared at the end of the last century by gaining a certain independent role and establishing their own institutions. The majority of the work of engineers can be considered in terms of two largely comprehensive areas, one concerned with the innovation process and the other with the operations process. The rationalization of technical development within the industry would mean the avoidance of duplication of effort. The number of engineers involved with sales and marketing activities is very low. The development of organizational structures in Hungary is several decades behind attainments in capitalist countries. The production strategy of Hungarian socialist industrial companies has been characterized by relatively strong vertical integration. The company’s value systems are slow and difficult to change.
