ABSTRACT

Chapter 18 introduces two forms of public relations writing used within an event context: shot lists and photo captions. The chapter begins with an overview of how public relations professionals work with organizational photography and videography. Shot lists are introduced as documents created for specific photo and video projects that include a description of the event/subject matter, the photo and PR contacts, the schedule, the location, key players and, most importantly, the requested shots. The format and structure of shot lists are reviewed, and the shot list template provides readers with a user-friendly guide for crafting shot lists. The second half of the chapter introduces photo captions, also called cutlines, and provides an overview of different types of photos and basic rules for crafting photo captions and credit lines. The chapter concludes with practice exercises in writing photo captions and an exercise in developing a shot list.
