ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 introduces media kits, also known as press kits, as a communications tool used by public relations professionals to garner publicity for their organizations. The chapter provides an overview of media kits and how they are used for special events, distributed during news conferences, created for crisis situations, mailed to targeted media, and are kept on hand to assist with basic media inquiries. It explores the various formats that media kits can take, including print and digital. The chapter outlines the basic components included in a standard media kit, such as news releases, backgrounders, fact sheets, bio sketches and more. The chapter concludes with an exercise that involves designing a strategic media kit for a client.
