ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the research methods and the findings of Team Alpha and Norham Together, a research project that involved academics working collaboratively with staff and students from a secondary school in the North East of England. It explains the top tips of conducting a co-production research project within a school setting. The young people then had a go at asking interview questions, in a role play in front of the group, whilst the research staff acted as teachers. The young people were given the task to develop the required information sheets and consent forms. All of the interviews were audio recorded, and anonymised before being analysed thematically. A key theme that emerged from the young people’s interview data was around confidence. The results may also prove useful to young people undertaking their GCSEs or those about to embark on them, by ensuring they do not underestimate the workload and the challenging content.
