ABSTRACT

Current educators are faced with a multitude of challenges. As a result, school leaders need to be aware of the stressors educators face while being able to encourage faculty to adapt to a constantly changing educational landscape. For example, the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America released updated national standards for K through 12 physical education in 2014. The standards indicate that the physically literate individual:

demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns (Standard 1);

applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance (Standard 2);

demonstrates the knowledge and skill to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness (Standard 3);

exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others (Standard 4); and

recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction (Standard 5). (SHAPE America, 2014, p. 12)
