ABSTRACT

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas. The World Economic Forum has played a strategic leadership role in influencing public- and private-sector agendas on a wide range of socio-economic and political issues. WEF is a multi-stakeholder organization in terms of its mission, governance, funding and membership. The scope of its activities and the topics on which it focuses go far beyond corporate responsibility. While WEF's membership model means that the business sector has been, and remains, the solid foundation on which everything else has been built, the Forum always emphasizes that it is a multi-stakeholder community. One of the most significant and comprehensive global, regional and national partnership platforms that WEF has developed to-date has been in the area of agriculture and food security.
