ABSTRACT

This chapter specifically focuses on business-led corporate responsibility coalitions that have been established with the explicit and, in most cases, dedicated goal of mobilizing business resources to directly tackle one or more environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges. Independent, non-profit membership organizations that are composed mainly or exclusively of for-profit businesses. Many traditional business organizations such as representative chambers of commerce, employers' federations and trade and industry associations have also established dedicated units or initiatives focused on encouraging their members to address corporate responsibility and sustainability issues. Some chambers and other business representative organizations have been instrumental in establishing independent, dedicated corporate responsibility organizations. The chapter illustrates examples from some of the leaders and suggests that they have an increasingly important future role to play in mainstreaming corporate responsibility and sustainability among laggard companies.
