ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines three main stages to date in the evolution of business-led corporate responsibility coalitions: 1970-1989 and the emergence of a small pioneering group of corporate social activists; and 2001-2011 and the rise of industry and issue specialists. The third main stage is: 1990-2000 and the emergence and rapid growth in influence and reach of a group of global field-builders and their national and regional affiliates. The International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) was created by Business in the Community in 1990 and was originally called International Business in the Community. It began as a vehicle to convene meetings of international business leaders under the banner of The Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum. Corporate Responsibility (CR) Forum Liberia is one of the youngest of the national business-led coalitions. The CR Forum is a private-sector initiative that aims to promote responsible investment, good corporate citizenship and collective action for the sustainable development of Liberia.
