ABSTRACT

Textile production is regulated by requirements to minimise resource consumption and harmful effects on the environment/climate in production processes. An end product should also meet the requirements for sustainable consumption. Subsequently, textile manufacturers offer a wide range of ecological clothing. For the further development of sustainable consumption and production patterns in the clothing sector, the relationship between ecology and fashion must be examined as an important factor. Ecological clothing, therefore, provided German consumers with some perceived protection against pollutants used in conventionally manufactured clothing. Simultaneously, global textile companies are paying more attention to ecological and/or social concerns. Assessing the extent to which the environmental problems associated with textile finishing as another ecological hot spot are being addressed by manufacturers is a challenging task. To achieve substantial ecological improvements within the clothing industry, there must be a clear increase in the demand for eco-fashions.
