ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the conceptual framework, the methodological approach of the survey. It briefly explains the 11 selected sustainability activities in the fashion/clothing sector. The chapter explores the empirical relationship between innovation characteristics of focal companies and the implementation strategy towards sustainability in their supply network. It describes a conceptual framework that integrates innovation characteristics as important factors for analysing the different strategies found. Basically, the chapter reports on testing the propositions that were formulated on the basis of this framework in the fashion/clothing sector. The most relevant innovation/power characteristics appear to be the insight the organisation has into recent developments and trends in the clothes and fashion sector and about daring to address sensitive topics in the sector. Before the scores of the innovation characteristics of the respondents could be related to the participation in sustainability activities, some recoding of the data took place.
