ABSTRACT

Our Common Future (or the Brundtland Report) remains fresh and stimulating, its content affecting the way people understand the intersection between society and the environment, between economics and ecology. According to Our Common Future, the environmental crisis is essentially a crisis of civilisation. One of the ways of updating the Our Common Future Report is by integrating and adjusting it to a low-carbon economy, a growing economy, but also one that does not increase the emissions of greenhouse gases, as that process is undermining the chances of maintaining and sustaining life on the planet. Another very important aspect to update is the focus that the Report gives to the environmental impact of the poorest populations. The Report presents them as the most vulnerable, which is quite true; however, it also presents them as those who have the most impact on natural resources.
