ABSTRACT

The Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) is the philosophy bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. This chapter illustrates the framework of the Sufficiency Economy. Three interlocking circles embody the three components, Reasonableness, Moderation and Self-immunity, symbolising their interconnection and interdependence. The SEP thereby helps strengthen both individuals and communities capability to maintain balance and secure readiness to cope with immediate changes and immune themselves when encountering unexpected shocks: material, society, environment, culture, technology and other types of impact. As the majority of Thai people are farmers, who are poor and have limited access to basic daily needs, guidelines has been developed for an integrated agriculture system commonly known as New Theory Agriculture. According to the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), New Theory Agriculture has three stages: sufficiency at the household level, the community level, and the national level.
