ABSTRACT

Team pressures to identify a path to a sustainable design process are significant. Consulting experience has been with global corporations attempting to integrate emerging sustainable development strategies with their new product development processes. This chapter explores 'how to' guide for internal team members and external consultants active in the early phases of integration efforts. Some major companies have integrated sustainable design processes as a part of their sustainable development business strategies. Team members can gain knowledge from available books, articles and conferences that attempt to define best practices. Complementary to the environmental impact data, this single-figure Life-cycle impact assessment (LCA) process affords a team the ability to develop creative ecodesign strategies that can reduce or eliminate impacts. Consultants can assist in identifying appropriate candidates based on their exposure to team member roles and responsibilities.
