ABSTRACT

A consultant might next invite the organisation to ask whether the existing organisational languages are adequate for the task of moving the organisation toward ecological sustainability. Participating in the process of creating a new language increased a sense of ownership and belonging within the organisation and that in turn increased the level of energy in stakeholder engagement. One of the implications for practice and, therefore, for consultants is that organisations that would like to initiate organisational change need to engage a wide range of stakeholders as members of the collective subject in the process of co-authoring a new organisational narrative of higher purpose. One practical way of initiating organisational change in the direction of ecological sustainability is to start a new organisational dialogue by inviting stakeholders to answer a series of questions based on the ten core practices at Interface.
