ABSTRACT

Since the opening of its first store in 1921, Gucci has been known for products of outstanding quality and unmatched style. While Gucci is immediately associated with the world of luxury and celebrity, fewer people know about the company's extensive commitment to social responsibility—a commitment that extends into the heart of Gucci's operations. Gucci strongly believes in creating sustainable value across its operations: combining commercial performance and financial discipline with respect for people, society, and the environment. Corporate social responsibility is a rapidly growing field—with any number of potential standards, certifications, and organizations promoting improvements. The goal for Gucci was to develop a practical framework for implementing the company's values and for acting on its ideals. An undertaking of such breadth and scope demanded a collaborative approach between Gucci, its employees, its suppliers, trade unions, and the local communities in which Gucci operates.
