ABSTRACT

As the consensus over climate change and the role of carbon dioxide emissions grows, the aviation industry is coming under increased scrutiny. Two issues are raising debate within and outside of the industry. First, there are a number of questions on the extent of the problem, in the overall context of carbon emissions. Second, there is no consensus on the solutions or the level at which such solutions should be implemented. The purpose of this paper is to review the existing state of knowledge on carbon emissions in the aviation industry and explore the future of aviation in a carbon-constrained world.
