ABSTRACT

Knowledge acquisition or elicitation plays a central role in developing knowledge systems. In an increasing number of cases knowledge is implemented by software systems. These systems are called knowledge-based decision-support systems or just knowledge systems (KS). Knowledge of sustainability as well as sustainability of knowledge can be enhanced by the support of these kinds of systems. Knowledge-guided approaches also try to use existing domain knowledge, but this is possible only if this kind of knowledge is available and can be represented. As a knowledge-based system, Case-based reasoning can support the requirement of measuring the healthcare process for performance, appropriateness and, ultimately, cost effectiveness. Finally, learning is important in every knowledge situation. It is essential for human experts to learn, but it is still very difficult to create KS that actually learn. The main cause is the fact that learning mostly happens by using new experiences when solving problems.
