ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to actively contribute to the development of the principles and conduct of governance—especially by regulatory agencies—enabling broader transparency, openness and participation at national, EU and international levels. The particular conditions of the study of science–society interactions attract many newcomers. This was apparent at the Milan workshop and was the main reason for proposing the creation of the Worldwide Virtual Network of Practitioners Working on Science and Society Issues. Scientists from many diverse disciplines are engaged in science and society interactions, which integrate epistemologically based and practice-oriented insights. The network consists of researchers and practitioners from all over the world who share their knowledge, skills and time on a voluntary basis. The chapter offers area with short reviews on noteworthy books and articles dealing with science and society issues; online publication of papers elaborated by the members is also encouraged.
