ABSTRACT

It is no longer unusual to hear assertions that ecological and social factors affect business and the bottom line. Clear testaments to this reality include insurance companies’ mounting claims as a result of natural disasters and retail companies’ problems following workers’ rights violations or severe ecological impacts. The growing awareness of how sustainability issues impact corporate revenues is enabling businesspeople to see that ecological and social factors affect their enterprises and the economy. The question is no longer if sustainability is relevant to business, but when recognition will translate into action and how fundamental changes will occur within companies’ core strategies and operations.
