ABSTRACT
For those of us who believe in the UN Global Compact process it is necessary to remind the world, and ourselves, how we have this faith. This is why we have reprinted in this book both the UN Secretary-General’s launch at the World Economic Forum’s meeting in Davos on 31 January 1999 (Chapter 1) and John Ruggie’s article on learning networks from The Journal of Corporate Citizenship in spring 2002 (Chapter 2). We should also heed the UN Secretary-General’s words in the Foreword to this book that change cannot happen without leadership and, just as important, that ‘behind every leader there are agents of change’. Some of these leaders and agents of change are represented in this book.
