ABSTRACT
Urban development is tremendously important to our society. The effect of the quality and effectiveness of our urban system on the quality and efficiency of our private lives, business enterprises and civic systems has been under-appreciated. A new paradigm is emerging that increases efficiency and increases value for all urban development stakeholders. As catalysts of development, real estate developers are in an important position regarding eco-industrial implementation. Developers’ leadership in the new paradigm will realise the benefits of more efficient investment; but, if developers do not embrace this new leadership role, benefits and value will continue to be lost.
