ABSTRACT

The imaginary day in the life of Priscilla in 2005 introduces some new modes of production and consumption that are vital for eco-marketing in the future and which may be crucial in seeking sustainable development: leasing, renting, sharing and pooling. Renting and leasing are ways of prolonging product life and making sure that used products are returned to the manufacturer. The linear 'throughput' economy is transformed into a 'circular' economy; the traditional value chain is turned into a value cycle. The marketing task is to overcome the disadvantage of eco-efficient services and to communicate the advantages. The economic aims are to tap new market opportunities and gain competitive advantage; the ecological aims are to increase eco-efficiency by prolonging and intensifying product use. Performance sales is a new way of looking at business. The performance sales aims at tapping new business opportunities, especially in stagnating and declining markets.
