ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the national approaches to sustainable enterprise in Ghana. It includes key information about the priority issues, trends, and government policies as well as best-practice case studies of sustainable enterprise in Ghana. Ghana was the first country south of the Sahara to gain independence from the British in 1957. Ghana's economy has been strengthened by a quarter century of relatively sound management, a competitive business environment and sustained reductions in poverty levels. One of the most pressing challenges for Ghana is unemployment. Enterprise sustainability has become a topic of interest for academics and practitioners in recent years. Research seems to suggest that Ghanaian managers are not convinced of the strategic advantages of embracing sustainability. There is no comprehensive sustainability policy or law in Ghana. However, there are a variety of policies, laws, practices and initiatives that, together, provide a sustainability framework.
