ABSTRACT
Pakistan – which shares borders with Afghanistan, China, India and Iran – has an area of 796,095 km2. Pakistan has adopted the Millennium Development Goals set out by the United Nations Development Programme and while considerable progress has been made, significant gaps still exist for education, water and sanitation, shelter and personal rights. Apart from organizations that support the sustainable enterprise agenda in Pakistan, there are also individuals such as Faraz Khan who are trying to deliver impact. Khan is a UK-based Pakistani social entrepreneur who established the Social Economic and Equity Development Ventures hub, among other sustainable enterprise focused organizations. Potential Enterprise Mapping Strategy (PEMS) an organization that focuses on building and developing grass-roots enterprises in Karachi, with a view to scaling successful models and strategies throughout Pakistan. PEMS started out as a research project investigating what was restricting Karachi-based small-scale enterprises from achieving their goals and delivering social impact.
