ABSTRACT

Geographically, Cambodia nestles between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, countries that have offered assistance in times of conflict and also encourage cross-border trade. However, Thailand and Vietnam also offer better employment prospects and wage earners living near the border towns often choose to emigrate and take on low-skilled work. Cambodia is predominately an agricultural based economy with agri-food activity accounting for 72" of national employment in 2008. Cambodian Centre for Study and Development in Agriculture is an enterprise working on sustainable agriculture in rural areas by facilitating the organization of farm cooperatives, and teaching them how to lower resource inputs and improve crop yields. Taught techniques include better water management using drip irrigation and growing all year round through mixed cropping. International Development Enterprises is an international non-governmental organization that has been active in Cambodia since 1994, working primarily in the water and sanitation sector.
