ABSTRACT

Lithuania is a country in Europe situated along the south-eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. It borders Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. Lithuania has an estimated population of 3 million as of 2013. During the period of Soviet occupation, the economic infrastructure of Lithuania was exclusively oriented to the needs and interests of the metropolis. Enterprises mainly functioned within the centralized economy and were ruled from Moscow. The transition from a centralized to a market economy was complicated by the distorted economic system, incompetent management and corrupt privatization processes. Empirical studies on sustainable enterprise in Lithuania are scarce. Most research focuses on Corporate Social Responsibility, which is typically understood as a marketing and public relations technique, associated with branding and reputation building, rather than transformation or the emergence of a new business model. Traidenis was established in 1996 as the first producer in the country of waste-water treatment equipment from fibreglass-reinforced plastic.
