ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the three reports, assesses their importance for the impact investing industry, reviews its main contributions to market building and suggests a few improvements for the future. The first report is that issued by EngagedX (EX), a social enterprise that promotes the development of the impact investment market. The second report was published jointly by Cambridge Associates (CA) and the GIIN. The third report was issued on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Futurebuilders England Fund (FB). Calculating and issuing benchmarks is the kind of market-building effort required to bring impact investing beyond the well-meaning but scattered investments of the early days, when they were generally accompanied by uncertainty. The reports arguably include only genuine cases of impact investors. EX selected only the deals with a clear mandate to pursue impact, including FB. CA and GIIN identified funds among the members of credible impact investors networks worldwide.
