ABSTRACT

Women in India are often treated as second-class citizens. Gender bias and discrimination are rampant in Indian society. Work being done by Mann Deshi Udyogini, a unique business school for rural women, is significant. No background education or degree is required to enrol for the business management courses being offered by this business school that works hand-in-hand with Mann Deshi Mahila Sahakari Bank. Mann Deshi Udyogini provides skill training while the bank provides financing to women so that they can run successful microenterprises. The chapter highlights success stories of Mann Deshi Udyogini. It also highlights the work being done by Mann Deshi Bank and Mann Deshi 190Foundation in building gender capabilities for strengthening female participation in rural India.
